Abstract April - Day One

Nope this is not an April Fools joke! This is really happening, and to kick things off, day one prompt is "Self Portrait". his one was kind of difficult for me. I actually ended up doing this prompt twice. If you want to see the smaller version, I will have that posted to my Patreon next Sunday.

For the version I decided to keep for the prompt, this was done on 11x14 in canvas panel board. I started out by laying down my base layer of collage papers, and let my intuition guide me from there. Making the back ground came easy, but when it came to the "self portrait" part of the prompt I was a little bit at a loss. Until I realized, I had just gotten in some new Faces stencils. While I originally had something else in mind, when it came down to actually doing it, I took the easy way out. I do think I want to do this prompt again and try the idea that came to mind first, that I was unsure of. But this was the first day, first prompt - it can only go up from there!

For the rest of the month, I am making the promise now that I will jump in without fear. And try the scary thing, that might mess the whole thing up, but could end up being amazing. Below is the list of supplies I used (and I am hoping I did not forget anything)

  1. 11X14 in Canvas Panel Board

  2. Gloss Gel Medium (for gluing the collage papers down)

  3. Assorted brushes and sponges

  4. Collage papers (book pages, scrap book paper, scraps from the scrap bag)

  5. Stencils ( I think I counted at least 3 when rewatching the video.)

  6. Craft paint - Lots of colors

  7. Brayer

  8. Gesso White

  9. Water in a spray bottle

  10. Acrylic ink

  11. Baking spatula

  12. Stamps

  13. Distressed Oxide Spray.
